About
A living archive of urban design precedents
Urban design is in the details. The bench you waited on this morning, the bollard you walked past, the bin on the corner, that really cool bus shelter next to your office, or even that fountain you like to sit by. Collectively, these elements are the precedents that make great public spaces.
Urban Design Index is a searchable archive of urban design precedents, public realm objects, and street furniture examples from around the world. We want urban designers, landscape architects, architects, urban planners, and public space enthusiasts to share the photos and precedent studies they think are successful.
Submissions are anonymous by default. Make an account if you want to follow your contributions, leave notes, or back others' precedents.
Photograph: Ensure that the photo's composition showcases the element. Photos are preferably in landscape, and can be cropped once uploaded.
Location: Ensure that your photo has an approximate location. If your photo is geotagged, the website will automatically detect the location. This allows users to see where the element is located, and explore the area around it.
Object: Give your object a Title, categorize it as the correct element, add any notes you think others might find relevant.
Product info: If you know the manufacturer or the product name, please fill them in. Other users can complete this information once you post it.
Designer: Tag the designer of the public space, park, or street the object sits in if you know them. Anyone signed in can add this info later.
Attribution: All uploads are anonymous by default, but you may decide to show your name if you like!
